In the spirit of building an ecological new-entrant farmer movement in the UK, the (LWA affiliated) Groundspring Network, Sustain and the Organic Growers’ Alliance in collaboration with the Pasture-Fed Livestock Association and the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Network UK have created a handbook for informal traineeships, to fit the gap between farm volunteering and formal apprenticeships.

The handbook contains best practice models from existing informal horticultural and livestock apprenticeships as well as stipend/accommodation agreements and employment law support on hosting an informal trainee – outside an educational institution or charity – and other key advice for new informal trainee hosts and aspiring land workers looking for a traineeship. Differing from long term WWOOF placements, informal traineeships include a financial exchange and a dedication from host and trainee to take land education that step further past volunteering. The guide contains several case studies from CSA farms including Cae Tan, Chagfarm and School Farm CSA.

We will be sending out a free copy to all to all our CSA Network UK farm members or you can download a copy here
