Agroecology and Technology – Be Part of the Discussion

Does agroecology need to become more ‘technological’ to scale up and become more sustainable? What does agroecological appropriate technology look like? How can we make decisions around technology that align with agroecological values?

Over the next 18 months, Beyond GM/A Bigger Conversation will be working with UK farmers who sit under the agroecology ‘umbrella’ (agroecological, organic, biodynamic, permaculture, CSAs, nature friendly, etc.) to understand what they think about a range of new proposed agricultural technologies and the practical and philosophical underpinnings of the technology choices they are making.

Beyond GM/A Bigger Conversation is calling out to farmer members of the CSA Network who want to be part of thoughtful, constructive discussions about the use of different technologies, contribute case studies and be part of a wider group aiming to define core principles that can help guide the assessment of agroecological appropriate technology.

At the end of the project, Beyond GM/A Bigger Conversation hopes to have a platform from which to engage with industry and policymakers and to steer the technological research agenda towards outputs that benefit agroecology.
