Celebrate the autumn harvest at your local community farm

Community supported farms up and down the country are celebrating their autumn harvests with special events in September and October 2017 for our CSA Network UK farm open day this year.

Some of the events already planned include:

  • Farnham Local Food are opening their farm gates for a fun family day out. You can meet the growers and volunteers, see what they’re growing, and how, and pick your own pumpkin for Halloween.
  • Future Farms Martin near Fordingbridge will be doing farm tours; you can meet the pigs, including their new piglets, feed the chickens, see the vegetables growing and pick your own raspberries.
  • Southern Roots Organics in Dorset will be holding a CSA Autumn Harvest Day. The day is open to anybody, there will be a squash hunt for children, guess the amount of squash in the field (nearest guess wins a jar of Southern Roots Organics sauerkraut), a squash each to take home for everyone helped and squash soup available for lunch!

Community supported agriculture (CSA) is a radical approach to the production and supply of food that builds strong, close and mutually beneficial partnerships between communities and producers. The most common produce for CSA farms is vegetables, but they can also include eggs, poultry, bread, fruit, pork, lamb, beef and dairy produce. Farmers receive a more stable and secure income and closer connection with their community, and consumers benefit by eating fresh healthy local food, feeling more connected to the land where their food is grown and learning new skills.
