CSA Network UK Open Day - 1 October 2017

Events

Our CSA Network UK Farm Open Day is an opportunity for Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) schemes across the country to open their doors to the general public and raise awareness about what CSA is all about. Here are some of the events taking place this year:

 

Caerhys Organic Community Agriculture (COCA CSA)

Open Harvest Day

Date: Saturday 23rd September

Address: Caerhys, St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales, SA62 6DX

Details:
We will have a ” Open Harvest Day” on our farm where we shall have a farm walk hosted by myself and we will harvest our heritage variety of Emmer Wheat by cutting the crop by binder into sheaves then thrashing with a Ransom Thresher Plus we will be promoting our Csa with walk and talks to stress the value of Organic, Local, CSA to supply locally and the way to feed Wales !

 

The Crossing Community Supported Agriculture

Date: Saturday 30th September at  13.00-17.00

Address: The Crossing CSA, Brambletye Lane, Forest Row, RH18 5EH

Details: Site Tour, meet the animals: Sheep, Pigs, Chickens. Talk about regenerative Agriculture and Biochar as a way to sequester carbon FAST, produce for sale, Soup and Paleo cakes for sale, sign up by emailing info@thecrossingforestrow.com

 

Bosavern Community Farm

Date: Sunday 1st October at 13.00 – 16.00

Address: Bosavern Community Farm, St. Just TR19 7RD

Details: Community Farm open day, with farm shop, pop-up café, farm tour, bee education centre tour, meet the chickens, other stalls, craft activities. Dogs allowed in the farmyard on leads. People of all ages welcome.

 

Steepholding

Date: Saturday 30th September at  14.00-17.00

Address: Steepholding, Greenham Reach, Greenham, Wellington, TA21 0JY, Google pin with our location,  part of three smallholdings, come straight down the track from the road and follow the signs for Steepholding. Please contact us if you are coming on 07854680335

Details:

Come on down and see smallholding life and how a diverse array of plants, people and business have replaced the bare arable and pasture that was there before.

  • Enjoy refreshments and meet the smallholders on site.

 

The Oak Tree Low Carbon  Farm

Date: Saturday 30th September at 10.00 – 12.00

Address: The Oak Tree Low Carbon Farm, Playford Lane, Rushmere St. Andrew,  IPSWICH. IP5 1DW

Car parking spaces are very limited. If you live locally please walk or cycle if possible, thanks!

Details:

  • We will be offering a tour of our low carbon farm with refreshments available afterwards.
  • Please bring outdoor clothes including waterproofs if the weather is poor. Please also wear footwear suitable for walking in long grass. Sorry, no pet dogs allowed.
  • Suggested contribution of £5 per adult. Children (aged under 18) can visit free of charge.

Swillington Organic Farm

  • Opening of new Garden Gate in the historic walled garden
  • Harvesting apples

Stroud Community Agriculture

Farm Fest

Date: 9th – 10th September  10.00-14.30

Address: Brookthorpe Farm, Wynstones Drive, Brookthorpe GL4 0UN.

The farm is on the A4173, the Stroud to Gloucester road, in the village of Brookthorpe. There is a shared entrance with the Brookthorpe Nursing Home. Please park on the right by the walled garden and walk on down to the barn.The 93 Stroud/Gloucester bus stops right by the farm entrance. Alight at Fagins Pub

Sutton Community Farm

Harvest Festival

Date: Saturday 9th September at 10.00 -16.00

Address: Sutton Community Farm, 40a Telegraph Track,  SM6 0SH

Please note that parking is not available at the farm, so please walk, cycle or use public transport if you can. If you need to drive, please park on Woodmansterne Lane and use our main entrance opposite Flitton’s Nursery, SM6 0SW.

Details:

This is our annual open day where we celebrate the abundance of the growing season and all the hard work that has gone into the farm this year.

There will be family-friendly activities, farm tours, music and of course, delicious food!

It’s a great chance to meet the farm team and all the wonderful volunteers that make the farm happen, so we look forward to welcoming you on Saturday 9th September!

Banc Organics

Members’ day

Future Farms-Martin

Date: Saturday 30th September @ 13.30 – 16.30

Address: Martin Drove End, near Martin, Fordingbridge, SP6 3JT

Directions: From Martin, head in a northwesterly direction. The farm is shortly before the crossroads with the A354 on the left hand side.

Details:

  • Farm tours – meet the pigs, including our new piglets.
  • Feed the chickens.
  • See the vegetables growing.
  • Pick your own raspberries.
  • Win a Pumpkin for Halloween!

Farm shop with produce for sale and cream teas in the village hall.
Everybody welcome. Dogs on leads please.

 

Canalside Community Food

Southern Roots Organic

Details: On CSA Network UK open day we will be holding our CSA Autumn Harvest Day. This is both an open day and work day for our CSA members and people interested in seeing our project and lending a hand for a day. The day is a fun family day open to anybody, there will be a squash hunt for children, guess the amount of squash in the field (nearest guess wins a jar of Southern Roots Organics sauerkraut), a squash each to take home for everyone helped and squash soup available for lunch!

10.00 – 11.00:  Tour of the Market Garden
11.00 – 13.00:  Winter squash harvest round 1– we have over 1000 plants and 15 different varieties to harvest and store for the winter – so the more helping hands the better!
13.00 – 14.00:  simple lunch provided from Southern Roots Organic
14.00 – 17.00: Winter squash harvest round 2

Farnham Local Food

Details:  Farnham Local Food are opening their farm gates for a fun family day out!

  • Come and meet the growers and volunteers and see what we’re growing, and how!
  • Pick your own pumpkin for Halloween, join in with kids educational activities and crafts.
  • Pick up some super fresh veg harvested from site and try some delicious food made with it!
  • Visit our pop-up farm shop with handmade crafts and local produce for sale alongside our organically grown vegetables.

 

The Community Farm

Mellow October

  • We will be preparing and planting the polytunnels for our winter crops and harvesting the start of the winter crops too.
  • It will great to have you along; children are welcome too.
  • We’ll get the soup and bread in for a delicious lunch and ask you folks bring some goodies along to share too.

Community Farm Day – Mellow October

 

Cambridge Cropshare

Date: Saturday 30th September at 09.00-16.30

Details:

Join Transition’s community farming project, CropShare, to experience life as a real organic farmer for a day. We will be having fun helping out on the farm on Saturday from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and 2pm to 4.30, sharing a lunch and a chat in between. You can join us for the morning or afternoon session, or both. Click here to check which Saturdays we will be on the farm.

See our blog to get a flavour of what workdays are like. It will be good healthy fun, a great chance to see our local countryside, and how food is grown on a large scale.

Camel CSA

Details:

Come and take part in our annual Apple Day. Help us crush and juice the apples on our hand press. See what we grow on the field and in the polytunnels to share in our weekly veg boxes. Enjoy tea and homemade cake.
 All ages welcome. Bring your family and friends.

 

Growing with Grace

 Date: Saturday 30th September at 12.00 – 16.00

Details:
Come and join us for a fun-filled afternoon at the greenhouses. There will be loads going on – tours, talks, craft activities, food tasting sessions and demo’s. This is a great opportunity to come and explore the greenhouses, see and taste our beautiful produce, talk to our head grower, and other growing enthusiasts
  • 12-1pm we’ll have food demo’s and sampling by local health expert Alison Marsden.
  • 1pm – lunch will be available, made from our own produce (donations gratefully accepted).
  • After lunch there will be various talks on the virtues of organics and also natural beekeeping. 
  • Plus throughout the afternoon, we’ll be giving tours of the greenhouses, and running craft activities and games for children (and adults!).
  • This is all free – and it will be inside our lovely greenhouses – so no problem if it is raining!

Torth Y Tir

Date:  Wednesday October 11th at 10.00 – 16.00

Details: Our open day will include milling the heritage wheat we have grown, teaching sourdough, wood-fired bread making and sharing the ethos and skills of heritage wheat growing with Jean-Marc Albisetti, an experienced peasant baker.

We will also be updating people on project progress and exciting future plans, and sharing food!
