The East of England CSA Gathering – 25th September 2022 – Report

We had a great day at the wonderful Oak Tree Farm outside Ipswich for our East of England CSA Gathering. Experienced CSA’ers shared their expertise and top tips. CSA newcomers asked some brilliant questions. Lucy, Ryan, Stuart and Andy from Oak Tree Farm CSA gave us a fantastic farm tour of their site, where no dig has been transformational for their dry sandy soil and biodiversity is booming.

The lovely Paul from Waterland Organics , who have their own CSA talked about his 45 years growing and what he’d learnt about growing in dry conditions. First of all…plan for drought from the start. Hugel beds, underground irrigation, covering the ground and perennials were some of the other ways to carry on producing despite the increasingly dry weather. And reservoirs..we need more!. The Real Veg crew talked about their first two years running a CSA at Wakelyns Agroforestry, and we shared delicious walnuts and apples brought to the gathering by Matthew from Red Hat.

It’s great to see CSA growing in the East of England!
