Basic Income For Farmers (BI4Farmers) Launches Landmark Discussion Paper
Basic Income For Farmers (BI4Farmers) has just published their first discussion paper, “Sowing the Seeds of Stability: The Case for a Basic Income for Farmers, Farmworkers, and Food Producers in the UK.”
This groundbreaking document advocates for the implementation of a Universal Basic Income (UBI) tailored specifically to support those who form the backbone of our agricultural sector.
Universal Basic Income has demonstrated significant success in various regions around the world. Now, BI4Farmers is championing its introduction to the UK farming community. UBI is defined by five essential characteristics: it is a cash payment, provided regularly, given to individuals, unconditional, and universally distributed within a specified geographic area.
The proposed UBI aims to offer crucial financial stability to farmers, making farming a sustainable and viable profession. It is expected to enhance the health and wellbeing of farmers and farmworkers by alleviating economic uncertainties. Additionally, this stability could foster more environmentally friendly farming practices, contributing to a more sustainable agricultural landscape.
