CSA apprentice to feature in new access to land film

Farnham Local Food (FLF)  apprentice, Gavin Bridger, will be travelling across Europe this summer as part of an Erasmus+ funded project to explore the issues of access to land by entrants with a non-farming background. Gavin, a typical newbie without a background in farming, will feature in a series of videos asking questions about land access in different contexts across Europe. The film “Gavin Green Fingers” will raise awareness of the Access to Land Partnership by European initiatives seeking to address one of the rising challenges for sustainable rural development in Europe.

The film will be produced by Julio Molina-Montenegro, a Farnham Local Food member, who has 10 years of experience in documentary film making. The inspiration for the film comes straight from the nightmarish difficulties Farnham Local Food is experiencing in accessing land for expansion. In the film Gavin sets off on his journey around Europe to discover, from other successful community initiatives, how concrete advances have been made in accessing land for sustainable agriculture. Gavin discovers the international dimensions of what at first appeared to be just a local problem.

“Gavin Green Fingers” will have an engaging character-driven narrative creating a powerful knowledge-sharing tool. The film aims to promote dialogue between initiatives that have got off the ground but must face further consolidation in securing sustainability. Gavin asks the questions of an agricultural newbie with an eagerness to learn and a sense of humour that allows a wider audience to empathise.
