More support for small farms and market gardens in England

Soon small farms and market gardens will be eligible to apply for the DEFRA Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI). This was previously only available for farms larger than 5 hectares.
The SFI will also be open to new entrants who previously did not meet the requirements for the previous Basic Payment Scheme (BPS). The 5 hectare+ eligibility requirement will be removed from July 2024. All farms regardless of whether they received BPS in the past will be eligible for SFI.
The CSA Network UK are proud to have been part of these conversations advocating for more support for smaller farms of less than 5 hectares.
This campaign has been spearheaded by the Landworkers’ Alliance and other organisations including Sustain UK.
