CSA spotlight: Farnham Community Farm
Date Published: 23rd October 2026
About the CSA
Farnham Community Farm (FCF) were founded in 2008 by a group of people who felt there was a need for fresh, local produce, and a healthy attitude towards the production behind it. They farm on approximately 1.5 acres in Runfold, just outside of Farnham.
Their members range from 60-70 people and they grow over a hundred different vegetables in a regenerative way that supports biodiversity and healthy soil.
Recent developments: moving online
Recently they have moved to an online shop system, called Growing Good. They manage the payments for them and it has been easier in terms of admin. They also started stocking chickpeas, pastas and extra staples, all British or EU organic items, encouraging people to buy these staples through them alongside their weekly veg rather than at a supermarket. The FCF team made this online platform switch as they were not getting enough new members, they found less and less people were subscribing to the upfront monthly payment of the CSA and wondered if this was a fear of a big upfront financial commitment for the whole month whereas on the website and online platform people can buy their veg weekly. It has been a successful move and they have still retained 95% members and each members average spend has increased. They did question if selling online in this way, which they say is a lot more popular in the EU and US, means they still count as a CSA farm.
Supporter agreements, what makes us a CSA?
Currently people can pay £2 a month to be a supporter member of the farm, they are updating this to ask members to pay a one-off £1 payment to become a member with the option to support the farm further. Interestingly, most of their supporter members don’t actually subscribe to the vegetable share or buy produce with FCF, they want to support the farm or be a part of it by volunteering or attending some events throughout the year. Reminding us not just of the veg but of the importance of a community green space, a space to be in nature, meet with community, socialise, be active.
FCF hold social Saturdays once a month for anyone to attend, they offer a community lunch, homemade cakes and some volunteering activities. People can attend for free or have the option to donate and many people are happy to make a donation.
FCF had 2 visioning workshops with us at the CSA Network which they recommend. They identified what their priorities are and where they see themselves in the future. They also talked about become a CBS.
Moving land, advice needed
FCF are looking for new land and are interested to know if other CSAs have moved land before and what their experience was. Their current site has been well established for 7 years. Please get in touch with Teti at FCF if you have any advice or experiences to share hello@farnhamcommunityfarm.com.
If you would like your CSA to be our next spotlight, also featured in our newsletter and social media, please get in touch with Amy comms@communitysupportedagriculture.org.uk
