Community growing space available in York – apply soon
Date Published: 19th June 2024
A 4 acre council owned greenfield site has been sat vacant for some years and York Council are currently interested in hearing more about community growing proposals to take place on it.
Conversations have started but essentially they are looking for someone to spearhead and lead on this project. There is local interest in developing the site to increase local community access to locally grown food. And established organisations would be able to provide support for the right candidate.
More information:
The location, site and soil are all good but there are also some drawbacks as one would expect. The most important of which is probably the current lack of infrastructure. It would also need to link in with an established organisation in York but this should be easy to do.
They would highly recommend a site visit.
Length of tenancy isn’t clear yet but it should be possible to secure 5 years to renew or revoke.
This is a great opportunity to access reasonably priced land for a growing project on which to put your mark.
