Market gardener at Stone Farm, East Sussex
Date Published: 13th February 2026
Stone Farm is a 40-acre, family-run, mixed farm and micro dairy in the High Weald of East Sussex. The farm is set up as a raw milk micro-dairy, and this year we are launching a veg box CSA scheme. This will start from a small but established chemical free, no-dig vegetable garden that has previously provided food for family and friends. The first year of the CSA will be small, with a limited number of members and a focus on testing varieties, building healthy soil, producing compost and growing a community of local members.
We’re looking for someone with market garden experience who is interested in no-dig, chemical-free growing, and who would enjoy being involved in shaping the CSA from the beginning.
The role involves:
- Helping select varieties and plan plantings;
- Day-to-day market garden work (bed prep, propagating, planting, weeding, harvesting);
- Packing CSA boxes and taking part on volunteer days;
- Working closely with us and with the members as part of a small farm team.
You don’t need to have run a garden on your own, but should have experience in a market garden, be keen to share ideas, learn together and take some responsibility.
Practical details:
- Part-time, flexible hours (expected to be about 2 days per week) with the role limited to the
growing months initially (March to October); - Pay will come from CSA income in year one — to be discussed and agreed openly;
- Part of the compensation will be food from the farm, including veg, milk, meat and eggs; and
- Basic accommodation may be available in an on-site caravan.
This role is as much about joining a small farming community as it is about the work itself. If this sounds of any interest, please get in touch and we would be pleased to talk to you.
