How can CSAs become truly accessible, welcoming and relevant to the full diversity of the local communities they serve? One promising approach is twinning, bringing two groups, organisations or communities into a long-term, mutually supportive relationship that shares resources, builds trust and opens up new pathways to participation.
In this webinar, Jade Bashford of the Real Farming Trust and a few CSA Network UK farm members will take us through the innovative practical work they’ve been undertaking to bridge the social divides on CSAs.
Four CSAs have been running ‘Twinning projects’ and have partnered with urban groups; Somali Kitchen, a refugee group, a learning disability group and a food bank. Relationships have formed and there has been much learning about how to work together (and sometimes, how not to). We will hear short case studies from the CSA Twins. There will also be time for CSAs to talk about their own endeavours to engage with wider groups.
As part of the Real Farming Trust’s Twinning Project, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, CSAs across the UK have been exploring how twinning can break down barriers, widen access and create meaningful, lasting inclusion. From connecting farms with culturally diverse community groups to forging partnerships with social enterprises and support services, twinning offers a structured and inspiring way to build belonging.
