Next in-person training this July – Setting Up and Scaling Up Your CSA with Ed Hamer
Date Published: 9th May 2025
We’ve just launched the first of this year’s CSA Network two-day, in-person training courses designed for growers, organisers, and landworkers who are ready to build rooted, community-powered food systems. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to grow your existing CSA, this course offers the tools, insight and inspiration to take your next steps with confidence.
Led by Ed Hamer of Chagfood CSA, one of the UK’s most established CSA growers with over 13 years’ experience, this training shares the practical knowledge behind building a successful CSA from the ground up. From crop planning and community outreach to enterprise models and long-term resilience, it’s a space to learn what works, ask questions, and connect with others on the same path.
Hosted at a working CSA, the course also offers valuable on-the-ground learning and a chance to see CSA principles in action.
This course is ideal for individuals and groups who care about local food, land justice, and growing in a way that supports both people and planet.
Spaces are limited. Book early to secure your place.

This course offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from someone who’s done it, and done it well. Ed has built a thriving CSA in the heart of Devon, rooted in agroecological principles, community connection, and long-term sustainability. Now, he’s ready to share what he’s learned to help others do the same.
Over two practical and energising days, you’ll take a deep dive into what’s involved in setting up and scaling up a CSA, from building community relationships and managing membership, to planning crops, securing land, and ensuring long-term viability. You’ll also spend time at the host CSA site, Canalside Community Food, seeing how it all works on the ground and learning from their journey too.
This training is for individuals and groups who are considering starting a CSA, ready to get started or looking at their next steps in growing their farm. It’s designed for people who believe in fairer food systems, care about the land, and want to farm in a way that nourishes both people and planet.
The CSA model is one of the most effective ways to make small-scale, ecological farming viable – and this course will give you the tools and confidence to bring your vision to life.
Places are limited, so early booking is recommended.
