Two freelance opportunities

Opportunities – Two Part-Time Freelance Project Roles in Monmouthshire

The Conservation Farming Trust is based in or near Monmouthshire. The CFT are members of the Monmouthshire Sustainable Food Partnership. This is a brilliant opportunity to work on a flagship project developing regenerative horticulture in the area.

Project Coordinators, Our Food 1200

September 2022–June 2023

The Conservation Farming Trust (CFT) has been awarded grant funding to help deliver the next phase of a 10-year project to rebuild a local food economy in the Brecon Beacons and Monmouthshire. This community-led initiative promotes regenerative farming and is outlined here: https://ourfood1200.wales

We are offering two part-time freelance project implementation roles within our team to assist with project delivery. One person may apply for both roles.

These roles are home or own-office based, with occasional site visits throughout Monmouthshire and the Brecon Beacons. It is therefore desirable that applicants are based in the local area.

Background

The CFT supports regions in promoting and communicating modern small-scale regenerative farming knowledge. The Trust is currently supporting the development of a programme in Monmouthshire and the Brecon Beacons to rebuild a local food economy. The work is funded through the Welsh Government Cooperation and Supply Chain Development Scheme as part of the European Union Rural Development Programme 2014–2020. Two new entities are in formation to lead activities in the future for:

  • Our Food 1200, a locally managed Community Benefit Society (no. 8795) able to buy land into community ownership
  • The Regenerative Alliance of small farmers growing horticultural produce (fruit and vegetables) for local markets

The current priorities are:

  • seeking land through lease or purchase and matching it with growers.
  • assisting new start-ups with local knowledge and planning permission.
  • supporting the establishment of the Regenerative Alliance.
  • building local alliances with the public and with the local authorities of the region
  • supporting the formation of Our Food 1200 in its first year

Responsibilities

Role 1: (£11,000 including VAT over 10 months):

Administering the contract, including project finance, managing the tender process and reporting to Welsh Government. Also coordinating contracted project roles – evaluation, web development and communications.

Role 2: (£12,000 including VAT over 10 months)

Supporting the developing Regenerative Alliance of local farmers, with their work to:

develop collaborative marketing and sales as directed by the current members and stakeholders.  (This may include defining membership terms of the alliance, branding, promotions, sales and distribution system, and media communications). Organise work experience placements, school visits and open days on local farms and on other regenerative farms.

Both roles will include other activities supporting the development of Our Food 1200 as they arise.

How to apply

Please apply by sending a CV and covering letter explaining your relevant skills and experience to sue@our-food.org
